For those frustrated with the long lines and waits for a taste of the good stuff during last year's Barbacoa & Big Red Festival, organizers have heard you and have responded by adding an extra day to one of San Antonio's favorite events.
Breakout your stretchy jeans San Antonio, on Saturday, May 16, the 10th annual Barbacoa & Big Red Festival opens its gates to the masses who hunger for the South Texas delicacy that is an entrenched staple of weekend breakfast tables across the region.
Then, on Sunday, May 17, they are going to do it all over again.
The popular event posted its plans to expand the festival by one day over Facebook on Saturday making for many happy responses as the announcement kicked off a flurry of comments and appreciation.
Event organizers said they added the extra day due to the festival's rapid growth. Last year was the first for the festival at its new home, The Greenline at Brooks (formerly known as Brooks City Base).
The event quickly filled up and attendees hit social media with photos of huge lines, complaints of long waits, the heat and vendors running out of water and tacos.
"Hot, hungry and pregnant," @mrscovarrubias1 wrote on Twitter last May.
And while nothing can be done about San Antonio's heat in May, adding that second day is one way that organizers hope to accommodate an increasing attendance base. In another attempt to cut down on the wait times, there will be six entrances to the festival this year.
