The idea for a new Orange County event celebrating the folklore of lumberjacks started with a little wordplay.
Logger and lager. Same sound, different spelling, entirely different meanings.
Logger Fest, which will take place Feb. 8 near Irvine Lake, will celebrate loggers, lagers, breakfast food and music.
It’s the latest offering from Brew Ha Ha Productions, an organizer of craft beer-centric events. Their local credits include the OC Brew Ha Ha and the Sabroso Craft Beer, Taco and Music Festival, which featured lucha libre fighting squads alongside bands.

Cameron Collins, Brew Ha Ha’s founder, believed Orange County residents didn’t need “another beer festival.”
Rather, “They need more experiences. That’s what we’re doing with this, trying to provide a neat and unique experience that’s different from what the customer is used to seeing.”
Lagers and breakfast foods will be served all day at Silverado’s Logger Fest.

The centerpiece will be watching the Paul Bunyan Lumberjack Show, a professional group that has been performing for over 30 years. While sipping on lagers and indulging in breakfast foods, guests can hoot and holler for their favorite professional lumberjacks competing in ax-throwing competitions, two-person cross-cut sawing, chainsaw versus cross-cut races, hot saw racing, underhand chopping, springboard chopping, quick chainsaw carve, log rolling and more.
For all the non-pro attendees, there will be ax throwing, horseshoe tosses, tug-of-war matches and even a log roll to participate in — not the kind “where you can fall and smack your head on,” assures Collins.
Music will include a Johnny Cash tribute group.
And, for those so inclined, there will be a best beard competition.
Logger Fest tickets are now on sale. They start at $25 for non-drinking tickets. Attendees must be 21 and over. The event will take place rain or shine.
